I’m trying… and kinda failing…

It’s been awhile! If I could have a theme for this year, it’d be the year of illness. Not necessarily serious illness (though my infant having RSV and the Flu all in one month was a bit serious), but just the lingering coughs, pink eye scare (we didn’t actually have it), and overall feeling like crap kind of illness.

I can’t exactly remember when my cough started, but I think it was Mother’s Day? Maybe before? And since then I’ve had an ear infection and blocked ear which meant I had limited hearing for a week, nausea, body aches, I lost my voice, and, like I said, this cough that just won’t leave.

It’s been great.

A massive downside to the kids or myself being sick is that my correspondence, my posts in our group on Facebook, and my scheduled events all take a backseat. I’m not sure if you all know that I also work outside the home full time, and The Gentle Parenting Institute and Gentle Parenting of WNY are NOT my full time job (I wish!). So… once I get home I’ve been just CRASHING in the evenings (which is the time when I would snuggle with the baby and get on my computer and check emails, message people back, do some writing, and plan events).

Fortunately for me, I have this incredible support network of Board members and group administrators that generally keep things running smoothly. Even when my emails hit 1,347 (I’m not kidding… I thought about taking a screenshot to show you), my messages get so backed up I’m embarrassed to go through them, and my website hasn’t been updated in 3 weeks.

I can’t thank these women enough for what they do for this organization. Someday I’ll be able to… 😉

SO… enough about my issues and why I’ve been a flake lately. Here are some announcements!!

Online Meet-Up, 8:45pm – All you have to do is go to the group page (Gentle Parenting of WNY) and you’ll see my face and I’ll be talking. The topic tonight will be reconnecting with your child after anger. I first did this talk last Tuesday at Shine Yoga WNY’s Yoga Talk and it was well received! So I figured you all would appreciate it, too. This will be a shortened version, but I’m hoping to get it typed up nicely so I can put it out for folks to have.

Book Club, 9:00pm – Immediately following the meet-up we’ll be having book club (again, right in the group). We’re reading The Whole Brain Child, and we’ll be reviewing chapters 3 and 4. You don’t have to be reading along to join in the discussion!

Friday, June 9th: The Local Living Fair, 4:00pm-8:00pm – You don’t want to miss this! Check out the event page here. This Fair is FREE to attend, and there will be a TON of amazing local vendors and small business owners showing off what they contribute to our community. I look forward to this event every year!

Sunday, June 11th:

PLAYTIME! Tapping Into the Therapeutic Use of Toys, 2:30pm-3:30pm – NEW WORKSHOP! This workshop will show you how you can be an effective guide and playmate, while allowing your child the space to explore their environment and the materials around them.
Learn the value of toys and materials, their purpose, and what your child will gain from using them.
Cost: $15; Email me to register and reserve your spot (we have a few open)!

Jumping In: A New Parent’s Guide to Gentle Parenting, 4:15pm-5:45pm – This class is meant for new parents and parents-to-be who are interested in gentle parenting strategies involving building trust and respect with their infant, as well as learning about typical development and appropriate expectations. Children up to one year are welcome!
To register, please email me.
Cost: $30

**Rescheduled date TBD for the cancelled Peace Begins at Home class.** (from when I didn’t have a voice and couldn’t talk for 30 seconds let alone 2 hours) 🙁

Thanks for reading all the way through, I’ll see you tonight!
